The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), has established the C-DoT Centre of Excellence to advance cutting-edge research, innovation, and indigenous technology development in the telecommunications domain.
This Centre has been constituted pursuant to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between IIT Roorkee and C-DOT, with the objective of fostering a robust and long-term collaborative partnership in state-of-the-art information and communication technologies, in compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

The primary purpose of the C-DoT Centre of Excellence (C-DoT CoE) is to accelerate indigenous research, innovation, and capacity building in advanced communication technologies of national importance. The Centre seeks to bring together academic excellence, applied research, and industry relevance to support India’s strategic missions in telecom and digital transformation, including Atmanirbhar Bharat Mission, Bharat 6G Alliance, etc.

The C-CoE will serve as a hub for collaborative research, innovation, and technology development, encompassing hardware, software, system design, and standardization aspects.

The primary aims of this collaboration are the followings:

• Enable joint execution of telecom research and development projects of mutual interest
• Facilitate effective coordination, collaboration, and resource sharing between IIT Roorkee and C-DOT
• Serve as a foundation for a long-term strategic partnership between the two institutions.

The COE would be engaged in the following activities (but not limited to ):

• Collaborative research projects as per the CCRP Policy of CDOT
• Various collaborative research opportunities under C-DOT’s COI initiatives.
• Sponsored research projects of the government or Industry.
• Contribution to national/global standards, Patent pooling, SEPS, and License management.
• Consultancy projects in the field of mutual interest.
• Submission of Joint proposals for R&D Projects.
• Joint publications/patents.
• Sponsoring PhD students.
• Teaching by Industry personnel.
• The Institute faculty giving a lecture to CDOT staff.
• Joint BTECH / M-tech / PhD Guidance, Workshop, and Internship.
• Awareness and capacity building; lab usage as required.
• Technology transfers.
• Industry-relevant prototypes and testbeds.
• Skilled manpower trained in frontier technologies.
• Enhanced academic-industry cooperation and visibility at national and international levels.

In line with the objectives of the C-CoE, research proposals are invited from interested faculty members for possible funding in the following preferred areas:

1. 5G/6G solutions (FR3/Sub-Thz/THz solutions with fabless design, MIMO/OAM based antenna etc)
2. Quantum Communication and Cryptography
3. AI/ML, AR/VR/XR
4. Network/Cyber-security
5. Any other area that may be of common interest

Proposal Guidelines:
Interested faculty members are requested to kindly submit proposals having problem definition, state-of -the art, solution, milestones, timelines, deliverables per milestone and tentative budget. Kindly submit your proposal for consideration (head@ece.iitr.ac.in) by 11 Jan 2026 closed.
